AVONDALE, La. - ULM sophomore David McKendrick tied for sixth with two others after the fourth and final round of the 2007 Louisiana Golf Association State Amateur. The tournament was held at the TPC of Louisiana (par 72, 7,300 yards) in Avondale, La.
A 2007 All-Sun Belt honoree, McKendrick fired an opening round even-par 72 to tie for third place but was unable to get back to par or below in the final three rounds. He carded a 73 (+1) on Friday and back-to-back 74's (+2) over the weekend.
Sophomore Brooks Davis also competed during the tournament but finished two strokes shy of the cut line of 12-over par at 14-over (158) Davis opened with a first-round 83 (+11) but fought back with a three-over 75 on Day 2.
Heading into the final day of the Louisiana Golf Association Amateur Championship, many were in contention to win it all. At the end of the day however Chris Wells of Baton Rouge took home the crown by shooting a two-over par 74 and finishing with a total of two-over par 290.
Coming into the final holes there was a large group of players bunched up at the top. It was the play of Wells in the final five holes that separated him from the pack with birdies on holes 14 and 16 and three pars.
The TPC Louisiana is located in Avondale, La. which is on the West Bank of New Orleans. Competition was over 72 holes (four days at 18 holes per day) with a field of 144 players.
