Broussard Wins High Jump to Lead Track and Field at LSU Twilight

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Senior Clint Broussard earned his first title of the season in the men's high jump to highlight the ULM track & field team at the LSU Twilight Friday at the Carl Maddox Field House.

Broussard was the only athlete in the field to clear 2.06 meters, as he made good on his third and final attempt. He passed 2.11m before missing on all three attempts at 2.15 meters. Broussard's mark currently ranks No. 5 in the Sun Belt this season.

The Warhawks capped the evening with a second-place finish in the men's 4X400-meter relay. The team of freshman Nigel Cribbs, junior Martin Solomon, sophomore Jamel Sams and senior Dimitri Hampton clocked a time of 3:20.49, its fastest time of the season, to finish just behind Southeastern Louisiana (3:19.95).

Sophomore Silah Chumba turned in a solid performance in the men's 3,000-meter run with a second place finish in a time of 9:07.89.

The Warhawks had a pair of top finishers in the men's mile run as freshman Dusan Makevic finished in third place (4:21.69) and senior Daniel Mutai came in right behind him in fourth place (4:21.90). The ULM pair finished behind Phillip Primeaux and Barrett Miller of LSU, who finished first and second, respectfully.

ULM had four runners qualify for the finals of the men's 60-meter hurdles and Sams led the charge with a third-place finish (8.67). Freshman Nick Young came in fifth place (8.75) and sophomore Jonathan Mack finished seventh (8.79). Martin was called for a false start and did not finish.

On the women's side, senior Jade Thomas qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and finished 10th with a time of 9.42.

The women's 4X400-meter relay team of senior Jacobi Wilson, freshman Ariel Cain, freshman Ashley Harvey and sophomore Teona Glave clocked a season-best time of 3:59.19 to take fourth place.

ULM begins preparations for the Sun Belt Indoor Championships, which take place Feb. 24-25 in Jonesboro, Ark.
