JONESBORO,
Ark. -- The ULM men's track & field team completed the 2013 Sun
Belt Conference Indoor Championships with a seventh-place finish. The Warhawks
finished the two-day event with 35 points and were led by senior Daniel Mutai in the 5,000-meter run and
the 4x400-meter relay team on Monday.
Western Kentucky earned its second straight SBC Indoor title
with a total of 139 points. The Hilltoppers were followed by North Texas (126),
Arkansas State (104), Middle Tennessee (77), UL-Lafayette (69) and South
Alabama (54).
"I am disappointed with our finish at the meet," ULM head
coach J.D. Malone said. "While we
finished slightly ahead of where we were supposed to on paper, we feel like we
are a better men's team than that."
Mutai ran to a second-place finish in the men's 5,000-meter
run to give the Warhawks eight team points. Mutai clocked a time of 14:52.09 to
finish behind Western Kentucky's Joseph
Chebet (14:36.04).
The Warhawk 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Nigel Cribbs, freshman Andrew Tate, sophomore Jamel Sams and senior Dimitri Hampton capped the event with a
fourth-place finish. The group clocked a time of 3:18.08 and finished behind
Middle Tennessee, Arkansas State and North Texas.
ULM will now turn its attention to the outdoor season with
the McNeese Cowboy Relays on March 9 in Lake Charles, La.
