Women?s 1,600 Sprint Relay Paces Track & Field in Outdoor Opener

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- The ULM track & field team turned in a solid performance in its outdoor opener at the McNeese State Cowboy Relays Saturday at the Cameron Communications Track Complex.

The Warhawk women had a successful day in the relays, finishing first in the 1,600 sprint relay in a time of 4:07.81. The time easily defeated second place Southern (4:13.55). The ULM women also ran to a fifth-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay  (1:42.47) and a sixth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (4:02.10) on the day.

In addition, senior Danielle O'Donnell finished second in the women's high jump as she cleared 1.64 meters. Senior Jade Thomas turned in a fifth-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.14 and junior Celeste Rumphs took seventh place in the women's long jump with a best leap of 5.48 meters.

Sophomore Megan Caillouet recorded a personal record in the women's javelin with a best throw of 36.59 meters to finish in eighth place.

On the men's side, ULM received a trio of second-place finishes on the day. Freshman Corey Wesley turned in a personal-best jump of 7.32 meters to finish in second place in the long jump.

Senior Clint Broussard began his outdoor season with a second-place finish in the men's high jump as he cleared 2.06 meters. Broussard was the highest collegiate finisher in the event. Also, sophomore Jamel Sams narrowly missed winning the 400-meter hurdles -- finishing .03 behind Central Arkansas' Trevor Peacock (54.81).

ULM's 4x400-meter relay team capped the day with a third-place finish in a time of 3:15.63.

Both squads return to action next weekend (March 15-16) at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La.
