Jahaanvie Walia was the only player in negative numbers after the opening day of action at the F&M Bank Austin Peay State Intercollegiate on Monday, Oct. 1. Walia, who finished the first 36 holes at 1-under-par 143, ended the opening round with a 71 prior to firing a 72 as storms encroached on the Clarksville Country Club.

Walia was joined among the top five by
Shani White, who enters Tuesday in a three-way tie for fourth with a 5-over-par 149, and helped the Warhawk women's golf team (300-299 – 599) establish a four-stroke advantage over Murray State (299-304 – 603) and an 11-stroke edge over host Austin Peay (311-299 – 610) on the team leaderboard.Â

Walia's scorecard included 21 pars and six birdies in the first 36 holes of the event. The sophomore from Lusaka, Zambia, capped off the opening round with nine pars and three birdies and followed that with 12 pars and three birdies, including a pair on the back nine.

White, who enjoyed rounds of 75 and 74 in succession, placed herself in the tie for fourth by recording 21 pars and a team-best seven birdies over the course of the first two rounds. She opened with 11 pars and four birdies in the opening round en route to her 71. That was followed by 10 pars and three birdies, including two on the first nine, to finish the second round at even.

"The ladies played well today and minimized their mistakes," ULM director of golf
Tim Baldwin said. "I'm very happy for them as they're putting in some quality work as of late. Good things happen with proper preparation.

Senior
Scarlett Eaton put together a solid performance on Monday and is locked in a three-way tie for 16th with a 10-over-par 154 (75-79). Eaton's afternoon concluded with 21 pars and three birdies in 36 holes with two birdies coming in the first round.

Fellow senior
Olivia Landberg also is listed among the Top 20 players on the leaderboard, where she is tied for 19th alongside Murray State's Sarah McDowell with an 11-over-par 155 (76-79). Landberg emerged with an even par on 25 of her 36 holes and carded one birdie in the second round on the 17th green.

Junior
Angela Tocco, who is 13-over-par following scores of 79 and 78 (157), completes the Warhawk scorecard as she is locked in a three-way tie for 23rd. Tocco enjoyed par on 19 holes and tied Eaton for the third-most birdies (three) on the ULM team at the completion of play on Monday. All three of Tocco's birdies came in the first round.
