ULM Clipped by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Beach Volleyball
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The ULM beach volleyball team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end with a pair of losses (4-1, 3-2) at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday, March 4.

The Warhawks (7-3) suffered a 4-1 loss in the first match of the day and came up short in the second match by a 3-2 margin.

The Islanders (3-1) established momentum as Abigail DeVido and Selina Marolf posted a 21-14, 21-17 victory over Gabby Love and Grace Convey in the clash of No. 1 pairings in the opening match. ULM bounced back as Catherine Griffith and Maile Sellers downed Madison Green and Rachel Young in a three-set battle in the second flight, 22-20, 18-21, 15-10.

Knotted at 1-1, A&M-Corpus Christi quickly slammed the door in the No. 3 pairings as Emma Coudon and Lael Ceriani produced a 21-18, 21-15 win over Tamara Merseli and Kayla Gallant for the second point. In the fourth flight, Kylie Kvam and Demi McInnis added a 21-11, 21-11 win over Elizabeth Moreland and Allie Kemp to secure the match victory.

Sam Dumity and Brooke Adkisson closed out the final point for the Islanders with a 21-17, 21-15 victory in the No. 5 pairings over Bailey Smith and Audrey Brooks.

"As a team, we let the weather control us," ULM head coach Sara Rishell said. "It's difficult to play in freezing weather with a strong wind, but Corpus Christi just did a better job managing it.

"In our first match at the second pairing, Maile and Cat battled tough to come out on top in three sets, and their performance gave the rest of our team momentum for the second match.

"Katie (McKay) and Holland (Ponthieux) did a great job battling for the win in the exhibition and earned spots in the lineup for the second match."
