ULM Final Results / 2018 Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
– Freshman Micaiah Dendy finished in first place in the triple jump and was one of 13 Warhawk individuals to finish among the Top 10 as the Sun Belt Indoor Championships concluded at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 20).

Dendy, who had a personal-record jump of 12.44m (40-09.75) in her fifth attempt of the event, joined teammates Alton Clay (weight throw) and Jermal Parham (long jump) as individual champions at the two-day event. Dendy held off strong competition from Texas State's Mylana Hearn (40-09.50 / 12.43m) and Appalachian State's Chelsey Hargrave (40-09.50 / 12.43m) to bring home the top prize.

"We knew she had some bigger jumps in her after the last two meets, but to bust a foot and a half personal best in the triple as a freshman and collect the win was beyond expectations," ULM head coach J.D. Malone said. "I'm very excited for her because she has worked through some hard times this year to get to this point."

Clay followed Monday's first-place showing in the weight throw with a third-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 55-08.50 (16.98m). He was one of three Warhawks to finish among the top 15 in the event, followed by Micah Dye (54-04.00 / 16.56m) and Kyle Weiss (52-01.25 / 15.88m), who finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

"Alton and Jemal set the tone for our team this week as always," added Malone. "They scored in both of their events, of course winning their specialty. They have led our team by example."

Sophomore Levaughn Battick came through with a solid outing in the men's 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line fifth in a time of 8.12. He was .01 seconds behind Tyler Hugles (UL-Lafayette) and .04 from a third-place outing. Classmate Rodney Harrison enjoyed a sixth-place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 6-06.25 (1.99) on his third attempt.

ULM's team of Andre Johnson, Zach Kilpatrick, Austin McBain and Eric Hawkins placed fifth in the 4x400-meter relay. They were narrowly edged by Arkansas-Little Rock (3.19.00) and Arkansas State (3.17.44) at the finish line.

Brice Chaney was responsible for two of ULM's Top 10 finishes on Tuesday, finishing tied for sixth place with South Alabama's Berron Tyson in the pole vault portion of the heptathlon (13-04.50 / 4.08m) and garnering eighth place in the 1000 meters of the heptathlon (3:09.77).

Parharm returned to the track on Tuesday and like Clay had his second Top 10 performance as he placed seventh in the triple jump (46-03.25 / 14.10m).

Kourtni Russell represented the Warhawk women's team with a seventh-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles.

The trio of Hawkins (800 meters), Elias Ketner (5000 meters) and Colm Bourke (triple jump) rounded out ULM's Top 10 finishers. Hawkins posted a time of 1:58.29 as he crossed the line in eighth. Ketner completed the 5000-meter event in 15:18.64 (ninth), while Bourke had a leap of 45-03.50 (13.80m) to place 10th.

The Warhawks combined for 22 Top 10 finishes at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships and finished seventh among men's teams (50 points) and tied for 10th in women's action (15 points) with Little Rock.
