Louisiana Classics Second-Round Results

LAFAYETTE, La.
The ULM men's golf team shot a 3-under-par 573 (288-285) on Monday, Feb. 26 and sits in a tie for sixth place after two rounds of the 33rd-annual Louisiana Classics at the par-72, 6,866-yard Oakbourne Country Club. The Warhawks trail fourth-place McNeese State (289-277 – 566) by seven strokes heading into Tuesday's third and final round.

ULM's Joao Girao carded rounds of 71 and 68 and closed out the first day of competition in a four-way tie for fourth at 3-under 139, three strokes off the pace set by Kent State's Ian Holt (68-68 – 136).

Girao, the lone Warhawk golfer to shoot a round under 70 on Monday, finished with five birdies on the day. The sophomore established himself early in the second round with birdies at the first, third and seventh holes en route to a 2-under-par 34. After three pars to open the back nine, Girao notched his fourth birdie at 13 before completing the par-3 17th hole in two shots.

Junior Brady Price also enjoyed a solid opening day as he heads into the third round in a six-way tie for 15th after firing a 2-under 142 (72-70), six shots behind the leader. Like Girao, Price tallied five second-round birdies, including two on the front nine. Once he turned the corner, Price improved his score by two shots with back-to-back birdies at the 12th and 13th holes before adding his third at 17.

"The team competed well today," ULM head coach Tim Baldwin said. "We're in position with a good day tomorrow to beat some very good teams. We need to tighten up our dispersion off the tee and play the par 3s a bit better to make a run.

"Joao and Brady played solid today. I'm proud of the focus they maintained throughout the day."

ULM also received solid outings from freshman Max Catherine and sophomore Guillaume Fanonnel, who are tied along with 10 others in 43rd. Catherine (146) ended the day with scores of 72 and 74, while Fanonnel had a pair of 73s. Sophomore Thibault Santigny rounded out the Warhawk scorecard with a 153 (77-76) as he sits in a tie for 74th.

Girao's third round begins at 8:42 a.m. on Tuesday, eight minutes after Price, who also goes from the first tee. Catherine's day begins at 8:26 from the first tee while Fanonnel starts the morning at 8:18. Santigny begins play at the first tee at 8:10 for ULM.
