MONROE, La. - The ULM softball team is looking to bounce back after six straight losses, when it hosts Sun Belt opponent Georgia State this weekend; first-pitch of game one of the series is scheduled for Saturday (April 28) at 1 p.m. Sunday's lone-game is slated for 12 p.m., with senior presentations to begin at approximately twenty minutes prior to first-pitch.
Seniors
Rochelle Roberts,
Paige Murray,
Hunter Hogan, and
Cheyanne Lyon will all be honored on Sunday during the senior presentations.
The Warhawks are still atop the Sun Belt in batting average, swinging a hefty .315 and only one of two conference teams batting over the .300 mark.
Junior
Sydney McKay is still firing on all cylinders at the plate, claiming the top spot in the conference with 70 hits, heading into the weekend with an 11-hit lead on the number two spot.
Despite dropping the previous six contests, ULM is still making their offensive power known, holding three of the top five spots in runs scored. McKay leads the Sun Belt with 46 runs, followed by sophomore
Jayden Mount (39), and senior
Rochelle Roberts (36).
Mount maintains her ability to get on base at all costs, with a .580 on base percentage- the best in the conference. While Roberts is arguably the best base-runner in the Sun Belt, with 21 stolen bases in 25 attempts.
GSU has won five of its last six games and has won six straight Sun Belt contests entering the matchup at ULM. After taking the final game against ranked Louisiana, GSU then swept Appalachian State on the road before winning both games of a rain-shortened series with Coastal Carolina at home.
Georgia State ranks third in the Sun Belt in scoring, home runs per game, and fielding percentage. The Panthers rank second in the conference in slugging percentage.
It's sure to be a slug-fest this weekend as both teams struggle to keep their opponents runs off the board as well as their own. While ULM's losses have stacked against the Warhawk pitching staff, combining for a 4.52 team ERA, Georgia State is not having any more success, with a 4.11 team ERA for the Panthers.
