MONROE, La. - ULM has announced the hiring of Andy Mintz to the position of assistant golf coach. Mintz joins fourth-year head coach Chris Wilson's staff, pending the approval of the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
An LSU graduate and native of Monroe, La., Mintz lettered at Neville High School in golf and was the Regional 4A medalist as a senior. He also won the Twin City Junior Championship. Mintz posted his best finish in the Louisiana State Amateur at 13th-place in 1981 and was a alternate to the Louisiana Cup Team the following year.
After graduation from LSU in 1972, Mintz worked at Atlantis Golf Club in Atlantic, Fla., Cherry Hill Country Club in Englewood, Colo. and Dallas Country Club in Dallas, Texas. Mintz then earned his master's degree in economics from North Texas in 1976.
Mintz brings a wealth of amateur and professional experience to ULM as well as three decades of management experience in the Monroe area while working for several manufacturing companies in the Twin City area.
The Warhawk women's golf team concluded the 2007 season's competition at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at Disney's Eagle Pines (par 72, 5,997 yards) in Orlando, Fla. ULM finished with a three-day total of 939 (+75), including back-to-back 319s (+31) to start the tournament, for seventh place.
The ULM men's golf team finished in 10th place at the 16th annual Maxwell hosted by Oklahoma to end the 2006-07 season. The 54-hole tournament was held at the par-70, 6453-yard Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla. The Warhawks finished with a final round of 288 (+8) to go with rounds of 289 (+9) and 276 (-4) to finish 10th at 13-over (853).
