MONROE, La. -  The Warhawks tennis team used strong singles play and a sweep in doubles to pick up a 6-1 win against Delta State at Heard Stadium on the campus of ULM Saturday afternoon.

 

With the win, ULM (7-5) improved to 6-1 in its home facility.

 

ULM (7-5) started fast, picking up a sweep in doubles play. Junior Elodie Burlet and freshman Ana Burjaili posted the first win in dominant fashion, winning 8-1 at the second spot.

 

Lena Satge and Giovanna Arrondo clinched the early lead with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. The Warhawks completed the doubles sweep in the top position after Noelia Leon and Sharon Makhanya posted an 8-6 victory.

 

The Warhawks continued their strong play in singles, picking victories in five of the six positions.

 

Freshman Claire Clark started the singles scoring by defeating Paulina Potavpoa in straight sets in the sixth position, 6-1, 6-1. Marion Lehmann and Burjaili finished next winning 6-0, 6-3, and 6-2, 6-1, respectively, to clinch the match.

 

Arrondo claimed the win at No. 4 after downing Milena Araujol, 6-1, 6-3.

 

Delta State would avoid the shutout by picking up a win in the second position. Noelia Leon wrapped up the Warhawks scoring with a comeback win at No. 1 singles over Katharina Natt, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

 

The Warhawks will wrap up a six-match home stretch on Sunday when it hosts UAB at Heard Stadium at 10 a.m.
