Box Score ABILENE, Texas --- The ULM women's tennis team came close, but couldn't snap a stretch a tough losses on Wednesday evening when it fell 5-2 at Abilene Christian.
In the midst of a six-match stretch away from Heard Stadium ULM (7-9, 0-2 Sun Belt) dropped its fourth-straight by the 5-2 margin.
"The last couple of weeks we have been having some tough matches," ULM tennis coach Terrence De Jongh said. "You can see in them that we are close. It has been coming down to the doubles point or a third set in all of them and we are just coming up short. It was a hard fought match against Abilene Christian, but we just came up short. We are putting ourselves in position, we just aren't finishing when we get the opportunity."
The Warhawks and Wildcats split four doubles matches, but ACU took wins in the top two spots to claim the early 1-0 lead. Senior Giovanna Arrondo and Lena Satge picked up an 8-2 win in the third tandem position to avoid the scoring sweep.
ACU (6-2) picked up an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles and a narrow 8-6 win in the top spot to claim the point.
In singles play, Satge picked up a straight-set win in the second position, 6-1, 6-1, and freshman Claire Clark posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles to give the Warhawks their only points of the day.
Senior Noelia Leon, junior Marion Lehmann and freshman Ana Burjaili came close in their singles slots, but fell just short.
"We just need to get back on the right track and build some momentum going into the conference tournament," De Jongh said.
ULM will continue its stretch of road games on Friday when it travels to Denton to take on conference foe North Texas. The Warhawks will not play Southern Methodist as originally scheduled do to multiple injuries sustained by the Mustangs.
