MONROE, La.-Two-time Louisiana State Champion Ali Lucas signed a
National Letter of Intent to play for the ULM women's golf program beginning
with the 2010-11 season, ULM director of golf Ashley Tonore announced Friday.
Lucas won the 2008 and 2009 Louisiana Division II Championship
carding a two-round 154 in both events. In addition, she is the two-time
defending Louisiana Division II Baton Rouge Regional Champion. The Crowley,
La., native qualified for Louisiana High School Golf All-Star Classic the past
two years and won the 2009 event after shooting a 76.
"I couldn't be happier to have Ali join our team next
fall," Tonore said. "I know that she will be a great addition and asset to
the team. Ali has had a large amount of success throughout her junior
career. She has a great all-round game and carries herself very well
on course. I knew after seeing her play that she will help us
continue to move our program in the right direction. "
The Notre Dame High School standout represented Louisiana twice in
the Tri-State Competition and participated in the Louisiana Junior Cup. Lucas
was named 2009 Player of the Year on the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour and was the
Overall Points Champion.
So far in 2009, Lucas has won 12 of the 18 tournaments she has
played in and turned in a top five finish in four others. She is also an
all-district, all-parish and all-Acadiana basketball player for the Pioneers.
Lucas joins a ULM program that just completed a successful
fall season. Senior Angela Drane claimed a pair of individual medalist honors
and the Warhawks amassed a team record of 32-6-1 over their four events.
