HOUSTON, Texas ? Sara Larsson and David
McKendrick each finished with a top-20 performance at the Sun Belt Conference
Golf Tournament Wednesday at Cypresswood Golf Course. As a team the Warhawk
women shot their lowest round of the season on the final day to finish in ninth
place as did the men's team finish in ninth position as well.
Larsson crept up the leaderboard for the
second-consecutive day with a 3-over 75 after carding a 2-under 70 ? the lowest
round by a ULM female golfer this year ? in yesterday's second round. She
finished in 12th position after sinking a birdie on the first hole and in total
six birdies during the tournament.
McKendrick, for the second-consecutive day, moved up the leaderboard with a
1-under 71 final round to finish in a tie for 17th. He began his round on the
back nine with a birdie before finishing with six birdies in the round and 12
throughout the tournament.
“I am very proud of how David and Sara
finished the tournament,” ULM Director of Golf Ashley Tonore said. “It was also
exciting to see the women post their lowest round of the season. In all, they
golfed really well and improved each day of the tournament which was nice to
see.”
The Warhawk women posted a final round 305 ?
their lowest team round of the season by five strokes ? and finished with a tournament
score of 935. No 19 ranked Denver ran away with the tournament posting a
5-under 859 score, which was 14 shots better than second place finisher UALR at
873. Denver has now won six-consecutive Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championships.
The ULM men shot a final round 293 ? improving
five strokes from day two and 13 shots from the opening round ? to total a
tournament score of 897. Middle Tennessee shot a final round 4-under 284 score
to claim its first ever Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship.
Espen Kofstad of Denver was the individual
trophy winner on the men's side with an 8-under 208 total. Mallory Fraiche of
UALR posted a 3-under 213 score to claim medalist honors for the women.
Larsson earned all-Sun Belt Conference honors,
her second overall all-conference honor of her ULM golfing career. Her 12th place finish was her
second highest 54-hole finish of the season, with the highest being a second
place showing at the Fred Marx Invitational in the season opener in early Sept.
Taynee Pearson also played well for the
Warhawk women as she posted her lowest round of the season (73) as well as posting her
lowest 54-hole score (231) on the year. Katie Bernhardt also shot her lowest
