MONROE, La. --- With her collegiate jumping days officially over, Warhawk track and field's Heather Davis looks to continue her post-ULM career in the high jump starting at the United States Nationals in Eugene, Ore., on Thursday afternoon.
Competing in an elite field of 18 athletes that includes past Olympians, NCAA Champions, multiple U.S. National Champions, and members of the professional ranks, Davis will be looking to earn a spot on the American squad at the world championships.
Defending national champion Chaunte Howard, a Georgia Tech alumna and two-time Olympian, leads the field with a personal-best height of 2.00 meters. Also included in the field is 2009 NCAA champion Destinee Hooker of Texas.
Representing her alma mater at the championships, Davis is one of 16 declared and qualified athletes who have cleared a height of at least 1.81 meters competing in the event.
A native of Spring, Texas, Davis wrapped up her ULM career at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships. A six-time Sun Belt Conference champion with three titles in each the indoor and outdoor seasons, Davis won the 2009 NCAA Mideast Regional meet.
She became the third female student-athlete in program history to represent ULM at the NCAA Championships three times during her career.
Davis is scheduled to begin competition at 5 p.m. at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
