Women's Golf

JACKSONVILLE, Ala.-Playing in her first tournament in nearly 17 months, Angela Drane set a ULM school record en route to winning the Chris Banister Gamecock Classic on Tuesday with a 1-under-par 215 for the three-round tournament. Drane helped lead the Warhawks to a third-place finish with a school record 54-hole total of 911. The tournament also marked the debut of new ULM head coach Ashley Tonore.

Drane, who redshirted last season to complete necessary course work for graduation, fired an even-par 72 in Tuesday's final round at the 5,943-yard Silver Lakes on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. She entered the day tied with Lamar's Linda Persson for the lead, but Persson faded shooting an 84 in the final round. Drane, who broke her own school record of 218 for 54 holes, finished two shots ahead of Jacksonville State's Lucia Fernandez.

Two Warhawks topped the birdies chart as Drane led the way with 11 over the three rounds and Lina Billing was close behind in a tie for second with nine. Taynee Pearson finished in a tie for 14th place for the Warhawks after ranking fifth on the birdies list with seven.

Lamar held on to its second round lead despite shooting a 308 on Tuesday- its highest round of the tournament - to win the event with a three-round score of 904. Jacksonville State shot a 303 in the final round to finish second, while the Warhawks pulled within three shots of the host team carding a 301 on Tuesday.

Indiana State (918) and Arkansas State (918) finished tied for fourth followed by Butler (946), Northeastern State (956) and West Georgia (1,005).

Playing in her first collegiate tournament, ULM freshman Lina Lagergren finished in a tie for 18th after carding a pair of 77s in the final
two rounds. Billing shot her best round of the tournament on Tuesday firing a final-round 76 to finish in 22nd place, while Victoria Gustafsson also shot her best round of the season-opening event carding a final-round 76 to finish in 24th position.
