MONROE, La.-ULM director of
golf Ashley Tonore announced Tuesday the hiring of former Warhawk standout Erik
Hsu as the new men's golf head coach at ULM. Hsu's hire is pending final
approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
Hsu, a four-year letterwinner
for the Warhawks from 2000-03, was named to the All-Southland Conference Team
in 2003. During his ULM career he had multiple top finishes including a 10th-place
performance at the 2002 Southland Conference Championship.
"I
am extremely excited about Erik becoming the men's golf head coach and
returning to ULM," Tonore said. "He will bring a lot of energy and
enthusiasm to the program. I look forward to working with Erik and feel
very fortunate to have him on board."
Hsu played professionally on
the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series in 2008 before moving on to work as a sales
consultant for AT&T in Brookhaven, Miss. Before joining the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series,
Hsu won the 2007 Baton Rouge Invitational.
"I am excited about the opportunity that
I have been given at my alma mater," Hsu said. "ULM has been a huge part of my
life. My wife and I are looking forward to coming back and becoming a part of
the ULM family. As we move forward, I know there are great things in store for
this program and I look forward to being a part of it."
Following his graduation from
ULM with a degree in business administration in 2003, Hsu took over as the
territory manager for Rapid Retail Solutions in New Orleans, La.
Hsu, a native of Corvallis,
Ore., was an all-state and two-time all-league golfer at Crescent Valley High
School and became just the second golfer in school history to shoot under par
at the district championships. He is married to the former Miranda Daigle.
Hsu takes over as the men's
head coach for Brandon Strope who will remain with the team as an assistant coach
while he returns to school to complete his master's degree at ULM.
