Blankvoort Earns ?B? Draw Title at ITA Regional Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman Medy Blankvoort of the ULM women's tennis team won the 'B' singles title at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships on Sunday (Oct. 24) at Samford University. Freshman Letha Gaigher was also victorious in the 'B' singles consolation draw on the third day of the championships.

In her first match on Sunday, Blankvoort faced Jessica Diamond of Samford in the semifinals. Blankvoort earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Diamond to advance to the 'B' draw final. In the final, Blankvoort faced Samford's Emily Mallory, who defeated Gaigher in the first round of the 'B' draw on Friday.

Blankvoort earned the 'B' draw victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mallory. Blankvoort improved her singles record to 7-3 this fall with the win.

In the consolation draw, Gaigher faced Mississippi State's Elizabeth Hall in the semifinals to open play on Sunday. Gaigher was victorious, 6-3, 6-3, over Hall to earn a spot in the consolation bracket final, where she would face another Mississippi State player, Jordan Zachary.

Gaigher defeated Zachary, 6-0, 6-4, to win the consolation bracket. Gaigher is now 8-2 in singles play this fall with her two victories on Sunday.

ULM has wrapped up play at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships, the Warhawks will conclude fall play next weekend at the Southern Miss Halloween Tournament. The three-day event begins on Friday, Oct. 29, and will continue through Sunday, Oct. 31.
