BRADENTON, Fla. – The ULM women's golf team sits in 17th place following the first two rounds of the USF-Waterlefe Invitational Monday after shooting a 648 on the par-72, 5,998-yard Waterlefe Golf Club.
Freshman Ali Lucas paced the Warhawks after shooting a 79 the first round before carding back-to-back birdies during the last three holes of her second round to finish with a team-low 75. Lucas totaled 154 for the day and is tied for 24th overall. Mitsuki Katahira of Daytona State leads the field individually after firing 69-68-137.
The Warhawks shot 331 after the morning round before improving 14 strokes to shoot 317 the second. Nova Southeastern leads the 19-team field after firing 294 and 298 for a 592 total and Daytona State is just three strokes back in second after carding a 595 (296-299). Host South Florida is in third following a 608 (303-305), while Sun Belt Conference rival Middle Tennessee is in fourth (304-206-310) and Southern Miss is in fifth (308-304-612).
Four strokes back from Lucas is senior Lina Billing, who shot a five-over-par 77 the first round and a 79 the second for a combined score of 158 to tie for 43rd entering Tuesday. Billing and Lucas each collected five birdies between the two rounds which tied for the most for the ULM. Senior Monica Brown improved 10 strokes from a difficult first round to shoot 79 in the afternoon and sits tied for 81st with a 168 total. Sophomore Lina Lagergren ended the day one stroke back from Brown tied for 83rd and senior Britany Hanna sits tied for 93rd.
ULM will play the final round of the USF-Waterlefe Invitational Tuesday morning at the Waterlefe Golf Club starting at 8:30 a.m.
