MONROE, La. – Monica Winkel and Ana Burjaili each won singles titles on Saturday (Oct. 9) in the final day of play at the Warhawk Classic at Heard Stadium. Winkel won the crown in flight two singles while Burjaili was victorious in flight three singles.

In a matchup of two Warhawks in the flight two singles final, Winkel earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Letha Gaigher to claim the flight two title. Winkel is unbeaten in singles play this season after competing in just doubles last weekend at the ITA/Riviera Women's All-American Championship.

Burjaili also earned a singles flight title as she defeated Menna Kamal of Arkansas State to earn the singles crown in flight three. Burjaili and Kamal played a marathon match that saw Burjaili drop the first set, 5-7, before coming back to win the next two set, 6-1, 6-1.

Taylor Shepherd fell in the championship match at flight four, losing a tight first set to Tina Ojdanic from Arkansas State, 7-5, before dropping the second set, 6-2.

In the final round of play in flight one, Medy Blankvoort dropped a competitive 6-3, 7-6 match to nationally-ranked Martina Rubesova of Northwestern State. Claire Clark was victorious in the back draw of flight one singles, defeating Emily Crowe of Arkansas State, 6-1, 6-3.

Opening the day in doubles play, Clark and Winkel earned their way into the flight one final with a victory, 8-2, over Arkansas State's Jenny Herring and Ceara Howey.

In the back draw of flight one doubles, Gaigher and Burjaili were advanced to the final due to an injury default by Alcorn State. In their final match, the Warhawk duo defeated Arielie Buchmann and Katherine Hoepelman of Alcorn State, 8-3.

ULM will next return to action in two weeks, Thursday-Monday, Oct. 21-25, when it competes in the ITA Regional in Birmingham, Ala., hosted by Samford University.
