GULF SHORES, Ala. – Freshman Ali Lucas fired an opening
round 70 Monday afternoon at UAB's Fall Beach Blast to take first place individually
and lead ULM to a tie for second place entering Tuesday's final round on the
par-72, 5,974 yard Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club.
Lucas' two-under-par 70 is a career-low score for her since
coming to ULM and marks the lowest score shot by a Warhawk so far this season. The
Crowley, La., native leads second place Sarah Mathews of Memphis and Allison
Harper of Marshall by two strokes entering play tomorrow.
ULM shot a 13-over-par 301 in the first round and sits tied
for second place with Marshall. The Warhawks are nine strokes back from first
place Memphis who fired a four-over-par 292 while Belmont is 13 strokes back in
fourth place (305) and Austin Peay is in fifth place (308) 16 strokes back.
Sophomore Lina Lagergren sits second in the Warhawk line-up
after carding a four-over-par 76 and enters the final round tied for 15th
overall. Senior Britany Hanna is just one stroke back from Lagergren in a tie
for 17th place with a 77 while senior Lina Billing shot a 78 to sit
tied for 22nd. Senior Taynee Pearson rounds out the Warhawks in a
tie for 34th after shooting 83.
ULM will tee off at Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club for
the final round of UAB's Fall Beach Blast tomorrow morning with a shotgun start
at 8 a.m.
