Women?s Tennis Stays Perfect with Sweep of Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss. – The ULM women's tennis team improved to a perfect 3-0 on the season with a 7-0 victory over Alcorn State. The match was completed on Tuesday (Feb. 16) after beginning last Thursday (Feb. 11).

Doubles action was completed last week with the ULM duo of sophomore Monica Winkel and junior Claire Clark winning at number two doubles and junior Vivian Polak and junior Ana Burjaili winning at third doubles. Both teams of Warhawks earned 8-0 victories in doubles action. Winkel and Clark defeated Gonzales/Gonzales while Polak and Burjaili defeated Rud/Sandoval. In the other doubles match, senior Lena Satge and sophomore Jourdan Smith led Buchmann/Hoepelman, 4-3, when weather interrupted the match. With the doubles point already secured for ULM, the match was not completed.

In today's singles action, Polak and Burjaili each earned double-bagel wins at fifth and sixth singles. Polak defeated Dasha Rud, 6-0, 6-0, while Burjaili upended Tatiana Moreno, 6-0, 6-0. At number one singles, Satge earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over Arielie Buchmann. Freshman Sidney Bruscato claimed a victory at second singles, 6-2, 6-1, over Kali Sandoval. Clark's victory at third singles was 6-4, 6-1 over Kati Hoepelman while Winkel earned a hard-fought 7-5 first set at fourth singles over Claudia Gonzales before closing out the match with a 6-1 second set victory.  

ULM will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 20) when they host Southeastern Louisiana at Heard Stadium. Come cheer on the Warhawks in their home opener against the Lady Lions beginning at 11 a.m.
