Former Warhawk Competing for Croatia at the Winter Olympics

Track & Field
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Former ULM track and field standout Andras Haklits is competing at the XXI Winter Olympic Games for his native Croatia in the Bobsled. Haklits is the first-ever ULM athlete to complete in the Winter Olympics.

Haklits is in his first season competing with the Croatian Bobsled Team, as he joined the squad in September following the conclusion of the international track and field season. In December, Haklits helped the Croatian team earn a ninth-place finish in the Americas Cup four-man bobsled event in Park City, Utah.

A former indoor and outdoor track and field All-American, Haklits won the NCAA National Championship in the hammer throw during the 1999 season. He has also appeared in three Summer Olympic Games, competing in 2000 in Sydney, '04 in Athens and '08 in Beijing. His best Olympic finish was a 10th-place in the hammer throw at the 2008 Games.

The Olympic bobsled competition begins this Saturday (Feb. 20) with the two-man event; the four-man bobsled begins next Friday (Feb. 26).
