Women?s Tennis Claims Home Victory over Stephen F. Austin

MONROE, La. – The ULM women's tennis team returned to its winning ways on Monday (March 22) as it defeated Stephen F. Austin, 5-2, at Heard Stadium. The win gives the Warhawks five wins in their last six matches.

ULM (9-2) opened on a positive note, sweeping all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Junior Vivian Polak and junior Ana Burjaili opened with an 8-1 victory at third doubles over Jamie Williams and Meaghan Ocanas. Junior Claire Clark and sophomore Monica Winkel clinched the doubles point for ULM with an 8-6 win over Roxana Enica and Tatiana Smolnikova at first doubles. Senior Lena Satge and sophomore Jourdan Smith made it a sweep with an 8-7 decision over Paola Muntuenga and Alice Pacaut at second doubles.

Polak claimed the first singles match for the Warhawks, taking a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Pacaut at fifth singles. Winkel then finished off Smolnikova at third singles, 6-1, 6-3. ULM clinched the dual victory was Clark defeated Enica, 6-3, 6-1, at number one singles.

Each of the three remaining singles matches went into super-tiebreaker third sets. Burjaili won a three set match over Ocanas at number six singles, 6-3, 6-7, 10-8. Stephen F. Austin won the two remaining matches as Muntuenga defeated Satge at second singles, 7-5, 3-6, 10-4 and Sanjana Kapur bettered freshman Sidney Bruscato, 6-2, 0-6, 10-7, at number four.

With the victory, ULM improved to 4-0 at home this season.

The Warhawks will return to action on Wednesday, March 31, when they travel to Memphis. The match against the Tigers is scheduled for 3 p.m.
