Women?s Tennis Stays Perfect at Home with Win over Jackson State

MONROE, La. – The ULM women's tennis team won its third-straight match on Wednesday (April 7) as it defeated Jackson State, 6-1, at Heard Stadium. ULM took five of the six singles matches as well as the doubles point en route to the win. The victory improves the Warhawks to 12-3 on the season, 5-0 at home.

To help ensure the conclusion of the match ahead of incoming inclement weather, ULM and Jackson State began the match with singles competition. Junior Claire Clark scored the first result of the day for the Warhawks, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Victoria Guedez. Junior Ana Burjaili completed a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number six singles over Valentina Prado to push the ULM lead to 2-0. Sophomore Monica Winkel gave ULM a 3-0 advantage as she finished off Angela Rose, 6-3, 6-1, at number three. The match was clinched for the Warhawks when senior Lena Satge completed a 6-3, 6-1 victory at number two over Asha Saravanamohan.

In the final two singles matches of the day, Jackson State's Britney Shy earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory over freshman Sidney Bruscato at number five and junior Vivian Polak won a 6-0, 6-4 decision for ULM over Paulina Vargas at number four.

At first doubles, Clark and Winkel defeated Vargas and Guedez, 8-1. ULM clinched the doubles point when Bruscato and Satge bettered Rose and Britney Shy, 8-4. The Warhawks injury defaulted at number three doubles.

ULM will return to action tomorrow (April 8) when the Warhawks host New Orleans at Heard Stadium. Thursday's match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
