ULM Tennis Turns in Solid Start at SFA Fall Invite

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- ULM went 6-2 over four flights over singles, with two players advancing to the championship matches of their respective flights, on the opening day of the SFA Fall Invite hosted by Stephen F. Austin on Friday. The Warhawks went 4-0 against in-state foes winning all three matches against Louisiana Tech and one against Northwestern State.

Isabelle Rocher remained undefeated this season with a pair of straight set victories in Flight D. Rocher, a transfer from New Mexico State, cruised past Louisiana Tech's Maartje de Wit 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round and then defeated SMU's Erika Marshall 6-3, 6-0 in the semifinals; Marshall defeated LSU's Hayley Everett in the opening round. Rocher will play SMU's Kris Roberts for the championship on Saturday; the Mustangs finished last season ranked 29th in the NCAA.

Vivian Polak took care of a pair on in-state opponents in Flight C to advance to the title match against Julia Lorca from Stephen F. Austin on Saturday. Polak won a three-set thriller, 1-6, 7-5, 10-5, over Northwestern State's Tatiana Larina in the opening round and breezed past Tech's Anna Zurek 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals.

Monica Winkel will play for third place in Flight B after defeating Sam Houston State's Sheridan Currie 7-5, 6-2 in the opening round before dropping a 6-3, 6-4 decision to SFA's Elena Kordolaimi in the semifinals. In Flight A, Medy Blankvoort rebounded from an opening round loss to SMU's Edyta Cieplucha to defeat Louisiana Tech's Laura Fernandez 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 to advance to the title match of the backdraw.

The Warhawks dropped both doubles matches on Friday as they shuffled their doubles team as they search for the best combination.
