MONROE, La. - The interim ULM director of golf and head coach for the women's golf team Erik Hsu announced the signing of the Warhawks' first recruit for the 2012-13 season, Valentine Loge, to a National Letter of Intent on the final day of the early signing period Wednesday afternoon.
Loge, a native of Biergers, Belgium, brings a wealth of
international playing experience to ULM after a host of success in multiple
tournaments around the European circuit, including being the 2011 Belgium National
Junior Master Champion. Loge is the No. 2 ranked player in the U16 classification
in her home country this year.
After competing in 15 tournaments in 2011, Loge claimed a
top-10 finish in six of those events. Her results included two runner-up
finishes at the Royal Golf Club du Chateau Royal d'Ardenne Club Championship
and a junior tour event at the Rigenee Golf Club, where she tied for medalist honors
before falling in a playoff.
She represented Belgium in the Royal and Ancient Junior Open
Girls Championship in Fife, Scotland, where she placed second in the Silver
Division after shooting 79-78-157. Loge also made the cut at the highly
competitive International Open at Ravenstein and placed 20th
overall.
In 2011, Loge averaged 77.56 strokes per round, with her low
round being a two-over-par 74. The talented golfer showed her potential from an
early age after she set a course record of 68 at the Golf Club d'Ardennes at
the age of 14.
The ULM women's golf team tees off for the spring season
Feb. 19-20 when it competes in the Claud Jacobs Invitational in Victoria,
Texas.
