NATCHITOCHES, La. -- The ULM tennis team snapped Northwestern State's 20-match regular season win streak with a dominating 5-2 victory Friday afternoon at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex. It was the Warhawks first win over the Lady Demons since 2006.

The Warhawks (6-1) have now won five straight matches and have outscored their opponents 36-6 in their six wins this season.

"We set the tone early in the match and never let Northwestern get any momentum generated," ULM head coach Terrence De Jongh said. "We just beat a very, very good team and I am so proud of how we played today. We need to play with the same intensity tomorrow as we face another tough team."

ULM swept all three doubles matches for the sixth time this season to claim the crucial doubles point and set the tone for the match early. Claire Clark and Monica Winkel handed Andrea Nedorostova and Martina Rubesova their first-ever doubles loss in 23 matches, 8-5, on court two to open the match.

The freshmen duo of Letha Gaigher and Medy Blankvoort rallied from a 7-4 deficit on court one to win 8-7 (10-5) to give the Warhawks the doubles point.  Ana Burjaili and Vivian Polak completed the sweep with an 8-4 win on court three.

Clark, the reigning Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, made quick work of Olga Bazhanova on court one 6-1, 6-2 to run her singles record to 44-2 over the past three spring seasons. Gaigher won her fifth straight match with a 6-2, 6-2 decision on court six and Winkel clinched the match for the Warhawks as she also won her fifth straight match, 6-2, 6-2, on court two.

Polak scored the Warhawks last point with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court four before the Lady Demons (3-1) picked up points on court three and five to close out the match.

The Warhawks will go for their sixth straight victory tomorrow at 11 a.m. when they take on Houston (6-2) at the Jack Fisher Tennis Center.
