Box Score MONROE, La. -- The ULM tennis
team rolled to its 12th straight win with a 7-0 blanking of Nicholls
State Saturday afternoon at Heard Stadium as the Warhawks opened a five-match
homestand. The Warhawks swept through doubles and lost just eight singles games
over four matches.
"This was another
solid all-around performance by our team," ULM head coach Terrence De
Jongh said. "We have a big match coming up tomorrow against Troy and we
want to have a big crowd in the stands. Our ladies are playing at an
extremely high level right now and they are a joy to watch."
The Warhawks (13-1) won the
doubles point for the 13th time in 14 matches this season to take a
1-0 lead into singles. Claire Clark and Monica Winkel ran their record to 13-1
on the season with an 8-3 victory on court one, while Ana Burjaili and Vivian
Polak improved to 11-3 as a duo with an 8-3 win on court two. The teams only
played two doubles and four singles matches due to Nicholls State only bringing four players.
Clark improved to 13-0 this
season in singles with a victory over Florina Nosca on court one. Clark took
the first set 6-0 before Nosca retired prior to the start of the second set. Medy
Blankvoort gave the Warhawks a 3-0 lead with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 victory on
court three.
The Warhawks clinched the
victory with Burjaili's win on court three. She took the first set 6-1 and was
leading Tatiana Denezhkina 3-0 in the second set when the Nicholls' player
retired. Winkel closed out ULM's fourth shutout of the season with a 6-4, 6-2
win on court two.
ULM has a 64-17 record this
season in singles and a remarkable 35-6 mark in doubles. With the 7-0 victory
over Nicholls State (6-6), the Warhawks have outscored their opponents 77-14 in
their 13 wins this season.
The Warhawks will put their
win streak on the line Sunday afternoon when they host Sun Belt Conference
rival Troy at noon.
