Box Score MONROE, La. -- The ULM tennis
team rolled past Sun Belt Conference rival UL-Lafayette 4-1 Sunday afternoon at
Heard Stadium to run its win streak out to 16 straight matches. The Warhawks
improved to 17-1 on the season with the win and 4-0 in league matches.
"This was a great way to wrap
up our home schedule," ULM head coach Terrence De Jongh said. "Our ladies
really fed off the emotion of the large crowd we had. After playing three
matches over the past five days, a week off before traveling to Arkansas State
will be much deserved. We are on a great run right now and just have to keep
playing with great emotion and desire."
The Warhawks won the doubles
point for the 17th time this season with a pair of 8-4 victories on
courts one and two.
Claire Clark ran her singles record
to 17-0 on the season with an easy 6-0, 6-3 victory on court one. She is now
55-2 over the past three spring seasons in singles. Briggitt Marcovich gave ULL
(9-8) its only point of the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court three.
Vivian Polak, who ran her
singles record to 14-2, brought the Warhawks within one point of the win with a
6-3, 6-2 victory on court five. Letha Gaigher clinched the match for ULM with a
6-2, 6-3 win on court six to improve to 13-3 on the year.
Medy Blankvoort won her first
set on court four and Monica Winkel was in the middle of her first set on court
two when the match finished.
The Warhawks wrap up the
regular season next Sunday at Arkansas State before heading to Mobile, Ala.,
for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Apr. 21-24.
