Box Score JONESBORO, Ark. - The ULM tennis team won the first four points
of the day to register a 4-3 victory at Arkansas State for its 17th
straight victory Sunday afternoon at Allen Park. The win gives the Warhawks an
18-1 record and a perfect 5-0 mark in Sun Belt matches this season.
Just as they have done throughout the current winning
streak, ULM picked up the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles
matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. Claire Clark and Monica Winkel
won a tight 9-7 match against Janie Nowland and Biljana Milshevska of Arkansas
State at the No. 2 position to even doubles at 1 each. Ana Burjaili and Vivian
Polak clinched the point for the Warhawks with a 9-7 decision against ASU's
Jenny Herring and Menna Kamal.
Letha Gaigher made quick work of Kamal with a 6-0, 6-3
decision at the No. 6 singles to give ULM a 2-0 advantage. Gaigher now has a
14-3 record on the year.
Clark picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Emily Crowe at No. 1
singles to bring the Warhawks within one point of winning the match. Clark is a
perfect 18-0 this season and has put together a phenomenal 56-2 record over the
past three springs in singles action.
Burjaili sealed the match for ULM with a 6-4, 6-2 decision
over Miloshevska at the No. 4 position. Burjaili moved to 13-4 on the season in
singles play and 7-0 at the No. 4 singles position.
Arkansas State won the final three matches of the afternoon
with Ioana Teu defeating Polak 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 at No. 5 singles, Nowland
defeating Medy Blankvoort 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and Herring besting Winkel
6-3, 5-7, 10-6 at the No. 2 position.
The Warhawks take their 17-match winning streak into
the Sun Belt Conference Tournament April 21-24 in Mobile, Ala.
