LAKE CHARLES, La. - The ULM track & field teams opened the indoor
season with three titles Friday at the McNeese Indoor Invite I. Junior Daniel
Mutai and senior Derek Dark each picked up wins on the men's side while
freshman Teona Glave added her first collegiate win on the women's side.
Mutai clocked a time of 8:42.88 to earn the victory in the men's
3,000-meter run. Mutai cleared Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Christopher Hintz
by just under three seconds for the win.
Dark got his indoor season off to a solid start with a victory in the
men's shot put. Dark had a best throw of 16.09 meters to top D'Wayne Houston of
Southern, who finished second with a throw of 15.83 meters. ULM senior Preston
Dark earned a third-place finish with a throw of 15.25 meters.
Glave earned the win in the women's 600-meter run in her first
collegiate meet. Glave finished with a time of 1:38.14, ahead of Southern's
Mary Newton by more than a second.
The Warhawks return to action Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Texas Tech Open
in Lubbock, Texas.
