MONROE, La. --
Athletic programs at the University of Louisiana at Monroe continue to make
academic improvements, according to a report released by the NCAA on Thursday, Oct.
25.
"We continue to make strides in the overall
academic performance of our student-athletes," said Bobby Staub, ULM
Director of Athletics. "It's truly a team effort on behalf of our
student-athletes, coaches and academic counselors. We are certainly
headed in the right direction."
ULM's 2012 single-year Federal Graduation Rate was
the second-highest single year total in the past eight years. The Federal
Graduation Rate four-year average of 52 percent was the highest mark for ULM
over the last eight years.
ULM's four-year average for the Federal Graduation
Rates and the Graduation Success Rate has been trending upward over the last
three years. "Consistent improvement over a long period of time is the
goal, and that is what is clearly demonstrated," said Brett Bennett, ULM
Faculty Athletics Representative.
The Graduation Success Rate (GSR) encompasses the
academic outcomes of student-athletes who transfer from one institution to
another, while the Federal Graduation Rate does not include transfer students
in the calculations. Due to the inclusion of transfers, the GSR is considered a
more accurate portrayal of graduation success for student-athletes at each
institution.
Overall, ULM student-athletes achieved a 63 percent GSR;
they continue to show a trend of improving academic and graduation success.
