BATON ROUGE, La. - Senior Derek Dark
recorded a career-best throw of 56-6 (17.22 meters) in the shot put Saturday to
win the event on the final day of the LSU Relays. It marked the ninth-best mark
in the country so far this season and smashed his previous career high of 16.41
meters recorded two weeks ago at the Southern Miss Invitational.
Senior Preston Dark finished fifth
in the shot put with a best throw of 52-5.25 (15.98 meters).
The men's distance medley relay team
comprised of junior Devin Caldwell, sophomore Jacob Heckford, freshman Jamel
Sams and junior Daniel Mutai turned in a second-place finish in a time of
10:11.14. Mutai ran the final 1,600 meters of the 4,000-meter race in 4:10 to
propel the Warhawks into second place.
In addition, senior Jestin Miller
finished third in the men's 400-meter hurdles (53.62), senior Josh Howard
finished seventh in the men's long jump with a best mark of 48-7.25 (14.81
meters). The men's 4X400-meter relay team ran to fourth place with a time of
3:12.25.
On the women's side, junior Jacobi
Wilson finished ninth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.21.
The
Warhawks are back in action March 28-31 at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
