AUSTIN, Texas - Junior Daniel Mutai raced to a second-place
finish in the men's 5,000-meter run to pace the ULM track & field squad on
the second day of the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Mutai clocked a time of 14:26.52 in his first effort of the
season in the 5,000. His time is the best in the Sun Belt this season by over
half a minute and also eclipsed his personal record.
Freshman Jamel Sams posted a personal-best time of 52.48 to
win his heat in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles. Sams finished just
outside of qualifying for the finals as he finished with the 15th best time in
a competitive field.
Senior Jestin Miller ran a time of 52.89 to finish 18th in
the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles. Both Sams and Miller have top 5
times in Sun Belt so far this season.
Senior Marcie Richard turned in a season-best mark of 140-10
(42.93 meters) to finish third in the women's section B javelin throw. Richard
finished behind Sara Oczypok of Kent State (152-8/46.53 meters) and Lauren Berg
of Texas A&M (148-5/45.24 meters). Richard has the sixth-best javelin throw
in the Sun Belt so far this season.
The Warhawks will continue action at the Texas Relays Friday
with the men's 100-meter dash, men's 4X100 relay, men's javelin, men's triple
jump, and men's and women's 4X400 relay.
