NATCHITOCHES, La. - The ULM track & field team capped a successful
day at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational taking home five titles. The Warhawks
also had the top collegiate finisher in two more events.
Senior Luther Ambrose clocked a time of 10.48 to earn the victory in
the 100-meter dash, his first in that event this season. Ambrose also anchored
the ULM 4X100-meter relay team to a victory in a season-best 41.10.
ULM finished 1-2 in the men's 400-meter hurdles as senior Jestin Miller
won the event in a time of 52.85. Freshman Jamel Sams finished just behind Miller
in a time of 53.83.
The Warhawks also got a victory in the men's 4X400-meter relay. The
team of Miller, Sams, junior Dimitri Hampton and junior Keyon Jones ran a time
of 3:13.47 to take home the title.
Senior Richard McKay earned his first title of the season in the
javelin with a best throw of 212-11 (64.90 meters).
Jones and senior Derek Dark each had the top collegiate finish in the
400-meter dash and the shot put, respectively. Jones clocked a time of 48.16 to
place third overall in the 400, while Dark had a best throw of 53-5.50 (16.29
meters) to finish second overall in the shot put.
On the women's side, ULM got a third-place finish from sophomore Johneashia
Diggs in the 400-meter dash. It marked Diggs' first effort in the 400 this
season. In addition, freshman Teona
Glave ran a season-best time of 2:14.80 to place fourth in the 800-meter run.
Senior Denise Myers finished runner-up in the 3,000-meter run in a time
of 10:48.62, and freshman AnnaKaren Lopez placed third with a time of 11:14.22.
ULM will be back in action next Saturday (April 14) at the Mississippi
Open.
