LAFAYETTE,
La. - A runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by Daniel Mutai
Saturday moved the ULM men's track team into sixth place through two days of
the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by UL-Lafayette at the
Ragin' Cajuns Track Facility.
Mutai (9:10.77) finished a mere .08 of a second
behind Western Kentucky's Kyle Chettleburgh (9:10.69) in the steeplechase
final, earning the Warhawks eight team points for his efforts. ULM (20) is within three points of moving
into top five in the competition (UALR, 23 points).
Derek Dark posted the second best ULM throw
of the season in the men's shot put with a 55-4.25 effort that earned fourth
place overall. Patrick Dvoracek's 51-1.75
toss was good enough for 10th place in the event.
Danielle O'Donnell finished in fifth place in
the heptathlon to lead the Warhawk women's track team, claiming seventh in the event's
long jump with a season-best 16-5.00 and fifth in the javelin throw with a
111-10, her best throw of 2012.
Denise Myers logged an 11:28.90 to take sixth place in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase. Myers beat her previous
season-high of 11:45.20 in the race set at the LSU Alumni Gold April 21.
The Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships
conclude on Sunday, with a total of 28 events yet to be decided across both the
men's and women's divisions.
