MONROE, La. – The Delete Blood Cancer team is working with students on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe and the family of local resident, Andrew Moffett, a 29 year-old blood cancer patient, to sign up potential donors in the fight against blood cancer. The Moffett family will be onsite to assist with the donor match process, which consists of filling out consent forms and swabbing the inside of the cheek. The process is quick and painless. Anyone from ages 18-55 can become registered and serve as potential lifesaver for Andrew or someone else in need.
Delete Blood Cancer is a global organization that leads the fight to eradicate blood cancer by empowering people to take action, donate bone marrow and save lives. The University of Louisiana at Monroe, College of Health Sciences Department and the ULM Athletic Department are working together to save lives, raise awareness and register donors while the two football teams rush to win on the field. A second drive will also be held the following day, Sunday, October 27, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in West Monroe .If you are unable to participate in the drives or become a donor, you can still support the cause and be a part of the fight against blood cancer by visiting the Delete Blood Cancer (www.DeleteBloodCancer.org) website and giving a financial contribution to help support the organization's ongoing efforts to eradicate blood cancer.
About Delete Blood Cancer
Delete Blood Cancer | DKMS started with one family's search for a bone marrow donor and is today part of the world's largest bone marrow donor center. We have helped register more than 3.7 million potential donors and facilitated over 37,000 life-saving transplants around the world, but we're not stopping there. Every day we lead the fight against blood cancer by working with families, communities and organizations to recruit more donors and provide more patients with second chances at life.
Every day thousands of patients search for a bone marrow donor match. Only four out of 10 patients are lucky enough to receive a transplant. “I lost my mother to leukemia when I was 14…” stated Katharina Harf, Co-Founder Delete Blood Cancer, “… I have made it my mission to recruit more donors so that other families don't have to go through the pain and loss that we experienced. We need your help so we can save more lives.”
