VERO BEACH, Fla. -- The ULM men's golf team finished atop both team and individual leaderboards in the Quail Valley Intercollegiate, hosted by McNeese State University.
The Warhawks finished the competition in first place after shooting a 17 under 847 (282-286-279--847); they were an impressive 21 strokes ahead of McNeese State, who finished in second with a 4 over 868 (289-288-291--868).
ULM's Charlie Macneal led the individual competition heading into the final round and secured his top spot after carding a 5 under 67; Macneal finished the tournament 11 strokes ahead of other competitors with a 15 under 201 (68-67-66--201). Greg Smail finished in a tie for second, along Brett McKinnon of Jacksonville, after posting a 4 under 212 (68-74-70--212). Mason Seaborn also finished in the top ten in a tie for tenth with a 2 over 218 (73-73-72--218).
“I told the guys this morning that I didn't want to leave any doubt; I wanted to win going away. They played great today and Charlie was spectacular so they did just that,” head coach Walt Williams said, “The low team score in the final round is unusual but these guys are special. They have played well in the last two events and could have won either of those, but there was no denying them this week and I couldn't be any more proud of them.”
The team will finish out their fall season in the Arkansas State Fall Beach Classic, scheduled to begin November 4th.
