BATON ROUGE, La. – ULM's athletes wrapped up the day with four season-best efforts, including three personal records, to lead the track & field team on Saturday against elite competition at the LSU Alumni Gold held at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
The day was highlighted by sophomore Jamel Sams, who won the men's 400-meter hurdles (B Section) with a season-best time of 52.74. It is the fourth fastest time in the Sun Belt this season, just behind teammate Martin Solomon's top time of 52.41.
Freshman Dusan Makevic recorded a personal record time of 3:54.48 in the men's 1,500-meter run, finishing sixth against some of the top runners in the nation. His time is the 10th fastest in the Sun Belt this season.
Freshman Joey Womack improved on his top mark in the javelin with a personal record throw of 190-10 (58.18m) on Saturday. Womack has now moved into fourth place on the Sun Belt's performance list.
The ULM men's 4x400-meter team also took on some of nation's best, finishing fourth in a time of 3:13.50. The team of Sams, freshman Nigel Cribbs, freshman Andrew Tate and senior Dimitri Hampton finished over two seconds off their season-best time of 3:11.16, which ranks second in the Sun Belt.
On the women's side, sophomore Teona Glave clocked a personal-best time of 2:13.73 in the 800-meter run, the seventh fastest time in the Sun Belt this season. Glave surpassed her previous PR of 2:14.31, set last season at the Sun Belt Championships.
The Warhawks are back in action next weekend (April 26-27) at the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
