NCAA East Prelims Begin Thursday

MONROE, La. – Three Warhawks have qualified to compete at the  NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Championships that take place May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C. Senior Clint Broussard qualified in the men's high jump, while sophomore Jamel Sams and junior Martin Solomon qualified in the men's 400-meter hurdles.

The East Preliminary Round is one of two regionals made up of the top 48 athletes in each event and is the qualifier for the NCAA Championships, June 5-8, in Eugene, Ore.

Broussard is coming off a stellar senior season in which he won three events and posted the top high jump mark in the Sun Belt. His top jump of 2.13 meters ranks 29th in the East Region. Broussard is making his second straight appearance at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships.

Sams posted a personal-best time of 51.98 in the 400-meter hurdles last weekend at the Sun Belt Championships and enters the East Preliminaries with the 23rd fastest time in the region. A native of Longview, Texas, Sams is also making his second straight appearance at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships.

Solomon will also compete in the 400 hurdles with the 40th fastest time in the region (52.47). Solomon, who was named the Sun Belt's Track Athlete of the Week on April 11, finished in third place in the 400 hurdles and seventh in the 110 hurdles at last weekend's Sun Belt Championships.

Sams and Solomon will compete in the first round of the 400 hurdles on Thursday, May 23, at 4 p.m. CT. Saturday, May 25, will feature Broussard in the high jump qualifier beginning at 5 p.m. CT, and the quarterfinals of the 400 hurdles at 5:15 p.m. CT.
