ULM Warhawks

MONROE, La. – ULM head coach J.D. Malone strengthened the track & field program during the offseason with the addition of 30 newcomers for the 2013-14 roster including 14 men student-athletes and 16 women.

“I am very excited about our signing class. This is a strong group academically and athletically,” said Malone, who enters his 15th season at the helm. “We have several local athletes like Brent Turner, Brittany Garrison, Ashleigh Mundwiller, Colleen Butler and Dominique Cheffin who can all help our program.”

The ULM men are coming off a season that saw it finish in the top-five for the fourth time in the last five years at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships. The Warhawks strengthened their 2013-14 roster in nearly every event.

“Our men's team will benefit from Jevaughn Shaw, Jamaican junior champion and Pan American Games finalist; as well as Andre Phillips (hurdles), Vinnie Van Puyvelde (distance), and Jadarius Wright (jumps),” said Malone.

The women added a lot of depth to a team that finished 11th at the SBC Outdoor championships last season with one of the youngest rosters. ULM brings in newcomers who are accustomed to success.

“Adriunna Brown (hurdles, jumps), Alexis Gordon (throws), and Alexis Hewitt (sprints) bring multiple state championships to the table for our women's team,” said Malone.

The track & field programs began conditioning on Aug. 23 and held their first practice on Sept. 19.
