Warhawks Conclude First Round of the Wyoming Cowboy Desert Intercollegiate

Men's Golf

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- The ULM men's golf team ended their first day of the Wyoming Cowboy Desert Intercollegiate in front of seven strong teams of the tournament's 23-team field.

After one round of play, ULM carded a 6-over 294 to put them amongst 11 teams that are separated by just five strokes.

“We are well back in a very strong field but we are only five shots out of sixth so anything can happen in this tightly bunched group,” head coach Walt Williams said, “we get to play with Big 12 schools TCU and Kansas State tomorrow so that will be fun for our guys and hopefully a confidence building opportunity!”

The Warhawks finished in front of fellow Sun Belt school UALR, as well as Big 12 school Kansas and tournament host Wyoming.

ULM's Greg Smail sits in a tie for 33rd after shooting an even 72, while Velten Meyer (1-over 73), Mason Seaborn (2-over 74) and Calum Hill (3-over 75) are close behind.

“We aren't where we would like to be as far as our placing after the first round but Greg played pretty well and Mason, Calum and Velten were solid,” Williams said. Charlie Macneal finished day one with an 8-over 80.

Round two of the tournament will begin Saturday morning at 7:10 a.m. PT.
