LAREDO, Texas -- The ULM men's golf team had an impressive performance in the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston, finishing in fourth place in a strong 17-team field.
“We weren't our best today but we played solid enough to finish up in fourth place. It was a team effort this week with everyone contributing,” said head coach Walt Williams.
The Warhawks carded an 8-over 584 in the first two rounds of play followed by a 295 in the third round to take the fourth place spot. The only teams to finish in front of ULM were No. 8 Houston, No. 14 Oklahoma and No. 25 Baylor.
“We beat several teams ranked ahead of us, including both of the other Sun Belt schools,” said Williams.
ULM led the Sun Belt teams, finishing the tournament 28 strokes in front of Texas State and 49 strokes in front of UT-Arlington.
Mason Seaborn shot a 76 in the third round to clinch an impressive sixth-place spot in individual competition, while both Calum Hill and Charlie Macneal kept the team going, each finishing the final round under par with a 71.
“We look forward to a couple of easy days and then head to Little Rock next week,” said Williams.
The team will make the trek to Little Rock for the First Tee Tournament, set to begin March 24th.
