LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Despite difficult conditions in the final round of the tournament, the ULM men's golf team held on to their top spot, finishing in first place of the First Tee Classic, hosted by UALR.
The Warhawks carded a 305 in the third round of play to secure their spot atop the leaderboard of a strong 14-team field, including two Sun Belt schools, Arkansas State and UALR.
“Incredibly difficult conditions today,” head coach Walt Williams said, “the low individual score was 74. We had three 76's and that held our lead for us. Our 305 was the low team score in cold, windy conditions.”
Greg Smail, Charlie Macneal and Velten Meyer carded the 76's to keep the team on top, while Calum Hill ended the day with a 77 and Mason Seaborn an 84.
Smail led the Warhawks with a final score of a strong 3-over 219 and the third place spot in individual competition. Hill was just two strokes behind to finish in a tie for fourth, while Macneal grabbed a spot in a six-way tie for 11th.
“We competed and pulled out a win on a difficult day,” said Williams.
The Warhawks are back in action on March 31st as they host the Wallace Jones Tournament, held at the Calvert Crossing Golf Club.
