NATCHITOCHES, La. – Three first-place scores and six runner-up finishes highlighted a highly successful outing for the ULM track & field program on Saturday at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.
Sophomore Joey Womack got the day started for the Warhawks with a first-place showing in the javelin with a personal-record throw of 62.55m. It broke his previous best of 61.18m, set last weekend at the Southeastern Lion Invitational.
Junior Teona Glave won the 800m and clocked in at 2:16.60. It was more than 2.5 seconds faster than the second-place runner. Freshman Brittany Garrison crossed the finish line third at 2:20.12.
In hurdles, sophomore Andre Phillips was crowned champion in the 400m distance with a personal-record score of 53.50. Senior Martin Solomon sprinted for a season-best and runner-up time of 14.35 in the 110m hurdles.
Sophomore Andrew Tate earned runner-up in the 400m with a personal-record time of 48.07. Another second-place showing came in the pole vault where junior Isaac Grieder cleared the bar at 4.77m. Sophomore Mark Demus etched a season-best of 21.31 in the 200m to grab third-place.
Sophomore Corey Wesley led ULM in jumps with a personal-record of 7.67m to take second-place in the long jump.
In the women's 200m, sophomore Ke'Andrea Wilson registered a personal-record time of 24.68 to take fourth-place. Freshman Alayna Wyre also tallied a personal-record in the event at 25.69. The duo also were a part of a season-best 4x100m relay team, along with sophomores Victoria Bowie and Ariel Cain, who clocked in at 46.95.
Cain also competed in the 100m hurdles where she set a personal-record of 14.34 to finish fourth. The 400m hurdles saw a similar result as freshman Adriunna Brown set a personal-record at 1:04.39 to take fourth. Brown also leaped to a personal-record of 5.96m in the long jump to place third.
The women's 4x400m relay team excelled as it shattered its season-best at 3:51.23. It was more than seven seconds faster than its previous best, ran by Glave, Brown, Bowie and sophomore Brittany Miller.
Freshman Alexis Hewitt led ULM in the 400m with a personal-record score of 59.99 to place fourth.
In throws, freshman Alexis Gordon posted a top-five hurl in the discus with a personal-record toss of 46.85m. Freshman Mi'Ca Lowe recorded a second-place throw in the javelin at 44.73m. For the men, freshman Jevaughn Shaw registered the longest collegiate throw of the day in the discus with a personal-record of 52.18.
ULM will wrap-up the regular season next Saturday in Hattiesburg, Miss., at the Black and Gold Invite. The 2014 Outdoor Sun Belt Championships is slated for May 9-11 in San Marcos, Texas.
