MONROE, La. -- ULM head baseball coach Bruce Peddie announced today the hiring of Eric Folmar. Folmar will work with the Warhawk hitters well as serving as the team's recruiting coordinator.
Folmar makes his way to Monroe after spending the 2014 season at Army. The Black Knights finished the season 33-18 overall and 15-5 in conference play.
“I've known Eric and the Folmar family for years,” said Peddie. “I recruited him out of high school and watched him develop into a great team guy. He played all over the field at Old Dominion and was part of two NCAA Tournament teams. Eric is a tireless recruiter with many national contacts. I'm thrilled to welcome the Folmar's into the Warhawk family.”
Before joining the staff at West Point, Folmar spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at Penn State. During his time at Penn State, Folmar was part of 200 victories and he was the program's recruiting coordinator. He handled third base coaching duties as well as coaching infielders and base running.
Folmar recruited pitcher Drew O'Neil who established the school save record and was drafted in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. He also brought catcher Ben Heath to Penn State. Heath set the school record for home runs with 19, was an All-American and drafted in the fifth round. In total, Folmar coached or recruited 21 players who were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft, mentored 22 All Big Ten player and 54 Academic Big Ten selections.
Prior to working at Penn State, Folmar coached at his alma mater, Old Dominion from 2002-05 where he worked with the infielder, outfielders, catchers and base running through his tenure while also assisting in recruiting.
Among the 15 players he coached or recruited that were chosen in the Major League Baseball Draft was Justin Verlander, a Cy Young winner and Most Valuable Player choice.
Folmar began his coaching career at Young Harris Junior College in Georgia where he served as camp coordinator and coached infielders and catchers. During his two seasons, the Mountain Lions won 82 games and a pair of conference championships.
During his playing days at Old Dominion from 1996-99, he helped the Monarchs to three Colonial Athletic Association Championship Game appearances, a CAA regular season and tournament championships and was part of a team that appeared in the NCAA Regionals.
A native of Chambersburg, Pa., Folmar earned his bachelor's degree in health and physical education. He and his wife Kim Miller, a field hockey All-American at Old Dominion and a member of the U.S. National Team, have five children, Bryce, Zac, Alex, Tyler and Mia.
