AUBURN, Ala. – Patricia Villar's second career tournament featured a nice run, but fell just short in the Consolation Draw B bracket at the ITA Regionals on Auburn's campus Sunday.
She advanced to the final after Jacksonville State's Courtney Conley withdrew in the semis due to an injury. Villar then went toe-to-toe with Louisiana Tech's Alba Escalona Perny before falling 6-4, 6-7 (4), 0-1 (6). She would have been the fourth Warhawk (Horakova, Mylonas, Popescu) to win a bracket in the fall.
Horakova was eliminated in the Round of 16 on Saturday after knocking off two ranked SEC opponents to begin the weekend. Because Mylonas lost in the second round of the tournament, she was unable to compete in the consolation pool and was eliminated.
ULM will next take part in the Big Easy Fall Tournament, which runs Friday-Sunday in New Orleans.
