MONROE, La. – Standing out for their respective programs, Hunter Kissinger from the ULM football team won Warhawk Male of the Week, while Petra Horakova from tennis earned Warhawk Female of the Week, announced Wednesday.
Kissinger, a linebacker, set a career-high on Saturday night as he recorded 18 total tackles in the Warhawks' Sun Belt Conference contest against Appalachian State. Of his 18 total stops, 10 were solo tackles and he recorded one tackle for loss against the Mountaineers. His 18 tackles are the most by a Sun Belt Conference player this season.
Kissinger has been on a tear as of late as prior to his 18 tackle performance against Appalachian State, the Springdale, Ark., native tallied 13 tackles at Tulsa and 12 in the homecoming contest against Georgia Southern. He has also tallied three tackles for loss during his recent streak (2.5 at Tulsa; 1.0 vs. Appalachian State). Kissinger missed the first two contests of the season due to non-football related surgery and in his first contest of 2015 [at No. 12 Alabama] he logged three tackles and assisted on a sack.
In league play, Kissinger is the conference leader at 15.0 tackles per contest. His season total, over his four games played, is 46 tackles (22 solo, 24 asst), four tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks.
Horakova, from Trnava, Slovakia, is coming off a big weekend which began with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Madison Harrison from No. 32 Mississippi State. Harrison was on the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie team last year at Kansas.
Later that day, the senior knocked off Savva Joanna Nena from No. 14 Alabama, 6-1, 6-0. Nena was the top-ranked JUCO player in the country last year.
Horakova has shined in the two biggest stages of the fall. Including her performance this past weekend at the ITA Regional Championships, Horakova also won Warhawk Female of the Week with partner Caitlin Herb after this big performance at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships a few weeks back.
It marked Horakova's third career Warhawk of the Week honor.
