MONROE, La. – A big showing from cross country's Chris Silva and a game-winning, double overtime goal from soccer's Kelley O'Dwyer earned the duo Warhawk Male and Female of the Week honors, respectively, announced Tuesday.
Silva shined for the Warhawks at the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships on Sunday in Atlanta. The senior came racing in as ULM's top finisher for the first time in his career.
The Indio, Calif., product registered an 8K time of 26:52.0 for a 26th-place result overall. It was a full minute faster than his 26:55.12 at the Crimson Classic to close out the regular season. Silva also demolished his time of 30:22.4 from last year's SBC Championships.
O'Dwyer, from Sugar Land, Texas kicked in the game-winner to defeat UL-Lafayette, 3-2 in the 104th minute. The senior first headed a shot off the cross bar, but followed it up by out-racing the keeper to the ball and firing it in.
O'Dwyer also had an assist in the contest as she knocked down a corner kick taken by senior Karlea Fehr which was put in by junior Mary Ashton Lembo for ULM's first goal of the game. O'Dwyer ended the season tied for the team lead with four goals and finished with 12 in her career, eighth-most in program history.
